Dr Sean McArdle

I am a HCPC registered Clinical Psychologist. Throughout my career I have gained experience working with all age groups, with individuals and families, and with a wide range of presenting problems, from the relatively mild to the most severe and enduring. I have worked as a registered Clinical Psychologist in the UK for the NHS, and abroad in the public health sector.

I have a wealth of experience working with clients struggling with emotional and mental health concerns including: depression and low mood; stress; anxiety (social anxiety, generalised anxiety, health anxiety, panic attacks, phobias); obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD); anger; self-harm; adjustment to health problems; adjustment to life changes; behavioural issues; low self-esteem; parenting difficulties; and interpersonal difficulties.

When working with individuals and families I take an integrated approach and draw from a number of therapy modalities including: Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT); systemic family therapy; Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT); Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT); mindfulness; and compassion-based approaches. I believe that this broad range of evidence-based interventions can be used collaboratively and flexibly to tailor the therapy intervention to the individual or the family’s specific needs. I aim to create a warm, non-judgemental environment in which people feel safe to discuss their concerns, and make sense of their difficulties to find a positive way forward.
