Dr Harriette Parnes

Hello, I am Dr Harriette Parnes,  a counselling psychologist, registered with the HCPC and a chartered member of the BPS.

I have worked within many settings, including the NHS primary and secondary care, local authorities, state schools, as well as charities and non-profit organisations. I have over ten years clinical experience working with a variety of difficulties including anxiety and depression, OCD, trauma, self-harm, bereavement, substance and behavioural addictions, hoarding, low self-esteem, gender dysphoria, perfectionism, post-traumatic stress disorder etc and have worked with both adults, children and adolescents.

I am trained in a wide range of therapeutic modalities, including cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapy, compassion focussed therapy, mindfulness, dialectic behavioural therapy, brief solution focussed and person-centred therapy. This allows me to work integratively and dynamically, so that I will tailor my approach to best suit each person’s needs along the way. Through the assessment process I am open and curious about what brings someone to therapy, working together with them to identify their goals for treatment and use this as a basis for formulating a treatment plan. I value working collaboratively, recognising strengths and building on an individual’s resilience to develop useful strategies and helpful coping mechanisms that they can move forward with.

Most importantly, I aim to provide a safe, empathic, containing, non-judgemental environment where individuals and families feel respected, listened to and comfortable enough to explore and share their concerns.
